Introduction to Nosework Class April-May 2026

Introduction to Nosework is a five-week class delivered over ZOOM.  Nosework is a fun activity that taps into a dog's natural scenting abilities.  It trains the dog to locate a specific target odor and alert the handler.  Handlers finishing this class will be prepared to join the weekly nosework practice and participate in Nosework Trials.

We will begin by imprinting the birch scent on your dog and teaching your dog an alert behavior. Once your dog has paired the birch odor with a reward, we will move to container searches, starting with glass jars, then cardboard boxes, and moving on to simple interior/exterior searches. We will stress "sourcing" and how to read your dog's behavior when it is in an area of odor.

It’s super important to attend all classes, as there will be minimal time to catch up, and each class will build on the previous class. It’s also important to practice every day (only 5-10 min), especially the first two weeks.

Starter kits are included in the price of the class.
