NASDA Workshop and Trials

July 11th and 12th, 2026

Time: 9 a.m.

Location: Auke Bay School Commons

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

Price: Working Spot- $125.00, includes 2 days working with your dog during the seminar and the trial entry fee.

This is a sanctioned NASDA event that requires registration with NASDA to participate in the trial portion.  See below for the link to the NASDA site to obtain a NASDA registration #.

  • Introduction Seminar presented by Callie Kiehl (Licensed NASDA judge since 2021) and 4 trials in 2 days! Earn your first NASDA points and potentially earn a new title!
  • The North American Sport Dog Association (NASDA) was formed in 2016 to demonstrate the breadth of canine olfactory abilities. Trials are designed to resemble both historic fieldwork and modern work, and to create a competitive atmosphere where humans and canines can develop their skills.
  • The introduction seminar will include approximately 3 hours of lecture and 2 hours of paws-on practice. We will cover all 4 regular classes:
    1. Urban Locating (canines are looking for caged rats in an urban/well used area),
    2. Trailing and Locating (canines are looking for caged rats in a field/woods and following a trail of ‘rat tea’ which is laid before competition) *We will have to drop the events with rats if the club cannot get them shipped to Juneau
    1. Shed Dog (canines are looking for antlers and retrieving them to their owner),
    1. Lost Item (canines are locating lost items; both their owners and strangers).
  • We will cover the purpose of the classes/trials, rules, levels, titles, and general philosophy of NASDA. In the paws-on portion of the seminar, all dogs (working spots only) will be introduced to the 4 regular classes.
  • On day 1, after the seminar, we will have 2 trials in all 4 classes. You will have an opportunity to start earning NASDA points. Ribbons and Rosettes will be awarded. *
  • On day 2, we will hold a small question-and-answer session for 30 minutes and then set up 2 more trials.
  • If competing, please register for a NASDA registration # here ($30 lifetime registration): nasda.dog
